Broadband has been adopted currently as one of the best data transmission methods. The term Mobile Broadband is used to refer to access of internet without use of cables. This means you can access the internet from anywhere without having to connect cables. This is made possible by the use of a portable modem or mobile phones elsewhere referred to as cell phones. This type of technology supports various data access methods including voice and video.
When the demand for mobile broadband increased, various technology groups were faced with the challenge of offering mobile broadband to their users. Due to this, the GSM Association joined forces with different technology devices manufacturers to advocate mobile broadband services in all technology devices. This led to the incorporation of mobile broadband on notebook computers and cell phones. This in turn led to the development of a variety of standards for mobile broadband transmission including GPRS, WIMAX and 3G.
Currently, mobile broadband is being used more than any other data transmission mode. The advent of mobile phones with many technological features has further aided the rate at which mobile broadband has spread. Another factor that has enhanced usage of this transmission mode is the use of optical fiber cables for data transmission. Various mobile or cellphone operators have taken up this method to transmit mobile broadband to their customers at very cost effective rates. Mobile phones and external portable modems are found almost in all homes and are used to receive the mobile broadband signals and transmit them to the computers.
In the United Kingdom for example, a group set up to promote use of digital telecommunication recommended that there be a broadband connection with a minimum of 2 mega bytes per second throughout the country. This has led to a reliable mobile broadband service that has been aided by the 3G technology. Furthermore, the Ka Satellite technology has ensured mobile broadband is available in all parts of the country.
