Web development is an umbrella name for the number of elements that go in with the making and building of a website. This therefore means jobs such as web design, web content development, web servers, web hosting and a number of client - business writing. Web development it such a large scale process, some would refer to it simply as the coding, and the non-designing aspects of making a web site. This can be as small as the coding of a page on a site to the larger coding of a whole website. A number of the bigger web development companies will work on bigger projects that are more difficult for example; e-commerce websites and social networking sites.
Web development as an industry has grown massively since it first began in 1995 when there was only a small 1,000 web development businesses around. Since then the amount of web development business has increased by a massive 29,000 businesses. The size of a web development department in a company will vary on the size of the company and how much they rely and use their website, for example; businesses that heavily rely on their website they will have a large web development department that have specialists in each field of the website making. Whereas smaller businesses may simply only have one web developer that will take care if all the aspects if website building, or they will have a wed designer etc. who is able to do everything.
With the growth of the web development industry has come the development of sites and their potential. For example with the development of communication through the internet has come the development of sites such as eBay, sites like these have changed the way that customers can buy their products and shop. You also have sites like Amazon that have introduced reselling, not only is this popular with people selling off the thing they don't need any money, it is also extremely popular with shoppers looking for a good bargain.
The web design on a site is therefore increasingly more important now as a website needs to be attractive to costumers as well as being accessible to them. Web design looks at all the aspects of a website that the customer will see, therefore all content, imagines, sound and video etc. is down to the web designer. During the designing process a number of elements are planned out for example; the purpose of the site is made through this process, the designer will work with a number of fellow employees to discuss the needs and wants for a site, the content is also written up or bullet pointed through the design process, it allows you to plan a rough idea about what you want your site to say. As well as that the audience is looked into, research into their costumer trends, needs and wants etc. as well as their internet and computer capabilities. The visual side of the site is all planned out and laid out.
